About the Club

Glengormley and District Sea Angling Club [GADSAC] was established as a club in 1978 and is affiliated to the Irish Federation Of Sea Anglers [IFSA].The federation is broken into four provinces Ulster, Munster, Leinster and Connaught.

GAD are affiliated to the province of Ulster [UPC] and compete with clubs from this league. The main event of the IFSA is the Master Angler Championships both boat and shore, each province takes turns at hosting the event which allows the Master Angler from each affiliated club to compete at national level each year. The top ranked anglers from these competitions  make up the Irish Team for International events.

Whilst the membership core is based in or around the Glengormley area of Newtownabbey ,which is situated six miles north of Belfast, it's members are drawn from a thirty mile radius and at one point had a member living in Plymouth.

The club is run and controlled by a small committee which is elected each year at the annual general meeting [AGM]. The committee consists  of a chairman, secretary, treasurer, recorder, match secretary and conservation officer.  The committee also co opts members as required and meets once a month for club business.

The club year starts in January with a club calendar of outings being selected, based on members preferences and past history. There is usually twelve venues picked, all of which are pegged beaches. An anglers best eight results count towards the club's Master Angler title. Events are scored on the bases of 1 point per centemeter. An extra point is awarded for each individual species caught. Minimum fish sizes apply to the above system. A rule book is issued to all new members and is updated as required.

The club record list has been maintained and is kept up to date by the recorder as well as a list of league results over the year.

We have preferred local venues on the north east Antrim coast ,which are fished on a regular basis, as well as visits to Donegal, Achil Island, Wicklow and Wexford. An annual club trip is arranged, and we try to make it a new venue each time.

There are three types of membership available, Senior, Associate and Junior. The committee works hard to ensure all members are catered for with various types of competition's, outings, and barbecue's throughout the year.

The club also takes pride in the fact it has a strong environmental awareness, and regularly takes up issues on conservation through the conservation officer.

We hope you have enjoyed reading the club's profile and web site, if you would like more information on the club or other sea angling related issues please visit the contacts page.
